Seminar reflection
Zack made a comment about what the roots of war was about. He used the words “roots spreading through the ground.” Those words created a picture of roots of blood attaching to our minds. So I felt that when he said “roots” he meant that war is a root in our minds that makes us go to war. I still wonder if “the roots are spreading through the ground.” Was a metaphor or if it’s what he pictured.
After the seminar I felt I could better understand the text and what the others messed was. After hearing frame different sides and standing points I feel that the text was written to tell us about the dangers war inflicts on our minds. Before I thought it was just talking about war and its evils. The seminar defiantly opened new opinions to look into and debate about.
The issue of this text had to do with war and its impacts. The impacts discussed weren’t just about how many people die or how much money is spent. The real issue was about the after affects of war. The text used descriptive sentences that at times reminded me of a rap group called Atmosphere. One of these songs talks about how are world is a vampire. He refers to a vampire because the world is getting eaten up by the world and buried under bridges. Every time I hear that song ill think more about this text.
Overall I feel I was strong in communication, referencing text, and clarification. I feel I was actively listening for ideas that I could feed off of and for some to debate about. I also used the text to make points and made sure to get clarification to help better understand the speakers mind set. I relay feel I should improve on new ideas, outside connections, and personal connections. I plan to get better understandings of the texts before the seminar and to find a standing point to help bring new ideas and both personnel and outside connections.
